The Wild Rivers Interpretive Center is hosting local artist Gary White, as our next Featured Artist. This is a rotating exhibit designed to introduce our residents and visitors to area artists who capture the beauty of our Wild Rivers, lakes and forests.
Gary was born and raised in Tipler, WI. He graduated from Florence High School in 1980. Art was always his favorite subject in school. He had a lot of respect for Mr. Tedeschi, his high school art teacher who inspired and encouraged him to use his God given artistic talent. Gary is self-taught, but likes to study the techniques of others. His favorite wildlife artist was Tom Beecham, the former Remington Calendar artist from the 1970’s. Gary’s paintings are mostly inspired by local wildlife and scenery. There have been a few paintings of the Dakota’s but mostly Northern WI. He also likes to paint nostalgic scenes and some sports related material. Gary paints mostly in acrylics on canvas but has painted a variety of other items as well. He has entered multiple duck, pheasant, turkey and trout stamp competitions in WI and other states as well.
Gary is married with two children and nine grandchildren and resides in Long Lake, WI. He is also the Pastor of the Long Lake Bible Church. If you would like to contact him, you can email him at gwhite6562@hotmail.com. To view Gary’s art go to https://www.garywhiteartwork.com/.
Gary’s featured pieces are displayed in front of the waterfall mural at the Interpretive Center located at 5628 Forestry Drive in Florence at the intersection of US 2 and Hwy 70. Hours are 8am – 4pm Monday through Friday and 9am-3pm on Saturdays.
