Florence, WI….. If you are traveling in Northeastern Wisconsin this summer on US 2 or Hwy 70 the Florence Visitor Center where these two highways intersect is a great place to plan a pit stop. A new one acre off-leash dog park is now open so you and your dogs can stretch your legs. There is even a fresh water hydrant available outside the fence if you have a water container for your dog. You’ll find a one mile on-leash interpretive trail through the woods that starts near the dog park and exits near the pavilion and kids swing set; a great place for a family picnic. The dog park is free and is next to the visitor center parking lot.

A new two-sided RV Dump Station island has also been added next to the dog park for campers and RV’s. There is a $10 fee with envelopes and a drop box on the island. Feel free to park you camper in the lot and walk into downtown Florence to eat, have an ice cream cone or visit the Historical Society Museum.

While you are here, make sure to stop into the visitor where you can purchase hunting and fishing licenses, boat and ATV stickers and other permits. The friendly visitor center staff will help you find maps, brochures and other information to explore Florence County. There are wildlife mounts to view including a full body albino buck, interpretive displays, a giant fish tank with native fish and other unique information about our area. This building also houses our County Forestry & Parks Dept, state DNR, US Forest Service and UW-Extension offices in case you have natural resource related questions. Or shop in the Wild River Treasures Gift Shop where you’ll find many nature and recreation related books, unique T-shirts, and other gifts and decorations. Summer hours for the Visitor Center are Monday-Friday 8am-4pm and Saturday 9am – 3pm. For more info visit www.ExploreFlorenceCounty.com.
