This new event, “Chili in the Woods” on Saturday, February 1st is a rejuvenation of the former Chili Ski-In event that began in 1992 but has been absent for the past few years. This event is at a new location: Lake Emily Trail on County Road D, 1/3 mile east of Hwy 101 just south of Florence. This trail system offers a 2.5 mile or 4.2 mile loop options. The other new twist is this event will take place with or without snow! Attendees can hike, snowshoe or X-C Ski depending on the snow levels. Snowshoes will be available to try for free if we have decent snow cover, otherwise hiking will be the better choice.
Attendees can come any time between 10am and 2pm to get some exercise and enjoy some free refreshments and camaraderie around a campfire. Chili, hot dogs on the fire, cookies and beverages will be located in the parking lot just off County Road D. For the safety of all, we kindly request, no pets please. This event is sponsored by The Friends of the Florence Wild Rivers Interpretive Center. For questions call the Visitor Center 715-528-5377, go to events page at www.ExploreFlorenceCounty.com or email Wendy at wgehlhoff@florencecountywi.gov. Any donations given at the event will help improve the exhibits and displays at the Wild Rivers Interpretive Center.
