2nd Annual Mike Roberts Memorial Ski Race and Lessons
Florence, WI….. The weather warmed up nicely on Saturday for the 58 students who participated in the 2nd Annual Mike Roberts Memorial Ski Race and Lessons event at Keyes Peak Ski Hill. Event organizers really appreciate the coaches, staff and skiers from Granite Peak Ski Team who traveled north from Wausau to volunteer their time and equipment for this awesome event. As Coach Jeff Tobin explains, “It’s just great to see the happy smiles on kids’ faces as they master a new skill. We love to come up to Florence to be part of this great event to develop new skiers in memory of Mike Roberts who grew up skiing at Keyes Peak”.
In the morning the students were split into groups by skill level and paired with one of the 8 coaches and 6 ski team members to receive small group ski lessons for 2 hours. After lunch, participants who wanted to try racing an official NASTAR ski race course had the chance to practice and make several runs. The winner of the Mike Roberts Memorial Ski Race trophy for the fastest time of the day was Austin Hoey of Florence with a time of 20.84. Other age bracket winners were as follows:
