Florence, WI…… The Menominee Range Gliders are hosting the first Keyes Peak Ice Bowl for disc golf enthusiasts this Sunday, February 19th. Registration starts at 10am with the players meeting at 11am at the Keyes Peak Ski Lodge at 4960 Hwy 101, 4 miles south of Florence. The tournament consists of 2 rounds of 12 holes each. The first round will be best disc format while the second round will require the tee shot to alternate between team members. The cost is $50 per doubles team plus a donation of 10 cans of food per team for the Florence St. Vincent DePaul food pantry. There is an open doubles division and a mixed doubles division. This is a chili/potluck event so please bring a dish to pass.

Disc Golf Ice Bowl events started in 1987 in Columbia, Missouri. In 2016 there were 218 Ice Bowls across the nation plus Canada and Europe raising over $357,000 for food banks. The Ice Bowl slogan “No Wimps, No Whiners” requires that events cannot be cancelled for inclement weather. The coldest 2016 event was played at -22 F in Ottawa, Canada. The snowiest event was near Lake Tahoe, CA where players trudged through 36 inches of snow. The Florence weather forecast for this Sunday, however, is a balmy 46 F so grab a friend and sign up for a great day to be outdoors in the Northwoods.
