Over 55 students participated in the Roberts Memorial Ski Race and Lessons event at Keyes Peak Ski Hill in Florence, WI Saturday. Organizers thank the coaches, staff and skiers from Granite Peak Ski Team who traveled from Wausau on a very snowy morning to volunteer their time, expertise and racing equipment. As Head Coach Jeff Tobin explains, “It’s rewarding to help so many kids’ learn to ski or improve their skills at this great facility. We love to come to Florence to help develop new skiers in memory of our friend and family member Mike Roberts who spent his winters skiing at Keyes Peak”. Mike’s sister Linda McCraw-Tobin attended the event as well as other extended family.
In the morning students were separated by skill level and paired with a coach for 2 hours of small group ski lessons. After lunch, 25 students opted to race on the official NASTAR course for times.
The winner of the Mike Roberts Memorial Ski Race trophy with the fastest time of the day was Logan Thompson of Florence (age12) with a time of 20.88 seconds.

Event sponsors were Granite Peak Ski Team, Florence Mining News, Keyes Peak Ski Hill Committee, Florence County Economic Development, Wild Rivers Interpretive Center, and Florence County Forestry & Parks. Proceeds go to the Keyes Peak Ski Hill Committee for equipment upgrades.
