Florence, WI – First Lady Tonette Walker recently travelled to Florence County to hike the LaSalle Falls trail as part of her Walk with Walker program. The group of 30 hikers had a two mile round trip hike into LaSalle Falls, Florence County’s largest waterfall featuring a 22 foot plunge. The Pine River on which this waterfall is located and the Popple River also in Florence County are two of the five state-designated Wild Rivers. These two rivers are protected from development and surrounded by state and county forest so you can escape to enjoy the quiet solitude and wildness of a different era.
Mrs. Walker had the following comments on her blog about the walk: “After some time walking, we started listening for the roar of the falls. As it became louder and louder, we knew we were getting closer, and suddenly the trail opened up to a SPECTACULAR viewing area of the falls, set 35-feet above the water! We had fun taking pictures on the large rocks hovering above the falls, with the water and bright red sugar maple trees serving as our perfect backdrop. The view was truly breathtaking – an untouched, natural gem right in our own beautiful Wisconsin.”
According to her website www.walkwithwalkerwi.org, this program showcases some of the beautiful but lesser know sites across Wisconsin while promoting health and fitness. Travelling with Department of Tourism staff, she has taken nine hikes so far this year in all corners of the state. Her website lists upcoming events and contains a blog where Mrs. Walker writes about each trail plus a photo gallery containing pictures taken on each hike.
